Detailed North Sikkim Itinerary (4 Nights / 5 Days)
Day 1 – Gangtok → Lachung (7,800 ft)
Depart from Gangtok after breakfast. Drive through beautiful landscapes with waterfalls and rivers. Stop at Singhik viewpoint for stunning Kanchenjunga views. Reach Lachung by evening. Check into your hotel and relax in the serene environment.
Day 2 – Lachung → Yumthang Valley → Zero Point → Mt. Katao → Lachung
After an early breakfast, drive to Yumthang Valley (11,800 ft). Enjoy the breathtaking views of flowers and snow-clad mountains. Visit the hot springs. Proceed to Zero Point (15,300 ft) - the last civilian point. Then experience the snow paradise at Mt. Katao (15,000 ft) with optional snow activities. Return to Lachung for overnight stay.
Day 3 – Lachung → Gurudongmar Lake → Kalapatthar → Lachen
Early start for Gurudongmar Lake (17,800 ft). Experience the sacred lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks. Visit Kalapatthar to see the unique black mountains against white snow. After spending time at these locations, drive to Lachen. Overnight stay at Lachen.
Day 4 – Lachen → Chopta Valley → Gangtok
After breakfast, visit Lachen Monastery and explore the village. If time permits, visit the beautiful Chopta Valley. Begin your return journey to Gangtok with unforgettable memories of North Sikkim.
Day 5 – Gangtok Local Sightseeing & Departure
After breakfast, enjoy local sightseeing in Gangtok including Tashi Viewpoint, Ganesh Tok, and Handicraft Center. Depending on your departure schedule, transfer to Bagdogra Airport (IXB) or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) for your journey home.
Best Time to Visit North Sikkim
Spring (March to May)
Spring is ideal for visiting Yumthang Valley when thousands of rhododendrons and other flowers are in bloom. The weather is pleasant with clear skies offering excellent mountain views. Mt. Katao and Kalapatthar still have ample snow for winter activities.
Autumn (October to December)
Autumn offers crystal-clear views of the mountains after the monsoon season. The air is fresh, and the visibility is at its best. This is the best time for photography enthusiasts. Early snowfall begins at higher elevations.
Winter (December to February)
Winter transforms North Sikkim into a winter wonderland with heavy snowfall. While this offers a unique experience, some areas might be inaccessible due to snow. Suitable for adventure seekers who want to extreme snow conditions at Mt. Katao and Kalapatthar.
Monsoon (June to September)
